The main purpose with the program is to give the students strong qualifications within the area of design of and making of garments ensuring professional employment within the field.
Though the program the Academy ensures the necessary aesthetic, ethical, technical and analytical qualifications to be able to solve complex assignments.
Furthermore classified as an advanced educational institution, it is the task of the Copenhagen Academy of Fashion Design to ensure the development of the fashion industry.

During the program you are trained in the extensive academic pattern making system covering womenswear, menswear and garment making for children. The program is planned so it supports and builds your knowledge, skills and kompetence.
In the different modules and particularly during the project periods ending with a trial exam, different relevant technical literature, encompassing theory and method within the given technical or practical subject area. During the project periods you will learn to narrow down and apply the subject areas required for your creative process.
The Curriculum is handed out continously during the program and you can read more about the learning objectives; Knowledge, Skill and Kompetence for the subject areas and the projects under each.
Please note, that teaching of the different subject areas is ongoing throughout the program and you should read more about the planning under our approach to teaching.
The purpose of semesters 1 & 2 is to give the students a common technical foundation. The program consists of theoretical, artistic and technical subjects. The students will be testing their skills in garment-design. Among other 3D-shaping and material-research.
The content of the program is shared between; theoretical teaching related to designing, design-methodologies and study-technique. Teaching in common techniques and materials on a more and more advanced level.
At the end of semester 2, each student will have obtained professional skills within the technical and spacial aspect alongside theoretical insight in the different aspects of the designproces. During the foundation year, each student will produce 3 full design projects (projects 1-2-3), alongside 2 set technical trials.
During semesters 3 & 4 each student will further develop on their individuality and methodology, enabling them execute a designproject which documents, presents and describes their capacity to solve a substantial complex subject / challenge within the chosen design- or subject-area.
The year is further developing the already obtained, knowledge, skill and kompetence and the formal demands and requirements for the 2 major design-projects (projects 4-5) become more substantial and complex. Among other research into the personal design signature is done as a preparation for entering the business. The final exam summarizes the joint learning objectives for the entire program.
Furthermore the Academy, in collaboration with the student will map out the possibilities and desires for what will happen after the program is ended.

The duration of the vocational program is 2 years. The study load equals 1120 ECTS-points. (Full-time)
Classes are run from 09.00hrs until 14.30hrs and the Academy is open from 08.30hrs until 15.00hrs.
Besides the Classes each student must allocate at least 12 hours on average for homework.
The program is approved for SU, the Danish Grant-scheme and therefore support from the grant-schemes in the nordics countries is possible.
The agreement between Academy and student is regulated by the educational agreement signed upon admission.
Grades are given after the danish grade-scale, which translates into the ECTS (European Credit Transfer Scale)
The Diploma is issued in English and grades are indicated after the Danish and ECTS-scale, making the exam papers transparent and usable all over the world.
Each student will receive a full transcript of the program showing the weight of the different subject-areas.
Yes, you can have a study-job, but you need to know that the study will be demanding and that you are responsable for your own planning and not scheduling hours when you have to be at the Academy
The kitchen-facilities are at your disposal and there are very good shopping-options very close by.
You must invest in your own tools such as; Scissors and sewing tools. Fabrics for your own projects alongside the material (toile/calico) you are making your prototypes in is not included in the tuition fee.
Yes! You will be working at home as well.
Yes! You will be working digitally and with the Adobe-package. As a student at the Academy you will get a student discount from Adobe.
No, the Academy is open from 08.00hrs until 15.00hrs.
